I must admit, until recently, I hadn’t worn powder foundation since I was 17 years old; the age I started experimenting with makeup. I bought Mac’s Mineralize SkinFinish Natural Powder while yearning for something lightweight but would still provide coverage. One thing Mac is wonderful at — a pioneer in — is providing a range of shades. I decided on the shade Dark after agonizing over it for weeks, and then settling with if it didn’t work I would return it so stop stressing out for nothing. No regrets guys!

My skin type
Oily; pretty dark and annoying hyperpigmentation
What it’s supposed to do
It’s a face powder that’s supposed to provide a natural finish. It can be used on its own or to set foundation. I used it both ways and was pleased. Mac describes the shade Dark as a deep caramel, but I think that is misleading. White the shade in the pan looks like a deep caramel, the powder works for me because it oxidizes to fit my skin tone – and I am not caramel anything.
How I use it
I use this on its own (concealing dark spots with concealer) when I want light coverage, with a large powder brush. I also use it as a setting powder for cream and liquid foundations, with a much denser brush.
What I like about it
Well, I wish I had found this powder ages ago. I like that I can use it on its own or on top of foundation. I love the finish and that it slightly controls (and I use that loosely) my oily skin.
What could be better
As far a performance goes, the powder is great but the shade names could be refined more so that it is clear which shade is for who. The oxidizing was a slight surprise to me and I would rather be super clear on shades when I buy them.
Joy Factor
On a scale of 1-10, this powder is a 10! It’s perfect for those days you really don’t want to wear makeup or if you want light coverage. It’s also a great setting powder.
