SNP Gold Collagen Ampoule Mask

When I bought the SNP Gold Collagen Ampoule Mask (~$3.00), I wasn’t expecting it to have actual gold in it. Well, it does; little gold flecks, in fact!

When I was looking up this mask, a few things surprised me. The first was that there was actually a NIH document on it. The second was that the active ingredient in the mask is witch hazel and not collagen. Which probably makes more sense as a product, since witch hazel applied topically probably has more of an effect on anything than would collagen applied topically. The second thing that surprised me was that there was another version of this that had fish collagen on the front of the mask instead of the piglet you see on the one I have. The ingredients appear to be the same, so I’m not sure what the difference is.

Here is what I actually experienced: I applied this mask after a session of dermarolling. This was the third mask I used after dermarolling and it wasn’t pleasant. Because this mask is perfumey (or for whatever reason), it made sheet-masking uncomfortable for me. Uncomfortable as in it stung. It wasn’t unbearable stinging, but it was quite noticeable and I did not have that experience with the other masks I have been using, which happen to be non-perfumey. In the end, my skin was left moisturized and supple, but I didn’t notice anything else about it, probably because I was distracted by the stinging.

Setting the dermarolling experience aside, when I googled “gold in skincare” many, many things popped up from it’s good for you, to it accelerates aging. For that finicky reason alone, this is not a repurchase for me, especially since there was nothing inherently special about this sheet mask. Also, why is there perfume in a sheet mask? I would love for these companies to do a survey and actually see how many women want to put fragrant products on their face! As you can see above, the mask doesn’t fit my face that well. It had an average amount of serum and I left it on for 20 minutes before it started drying out.

I reckon the lesson here is that everything that glitters ain’t gold! Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate the mask, I just thought it was an average sheet mask that happened to have gold flecks in it that was pretty perfumey.
