Review: Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paints

I was so excited when the Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Color Paints ($25.00) came out! I went to Sephora and initially only bought two colors, but I couldn’t stop thinking about two other colors I regretted not getting so I went back for two more!

My skin type

Oily lids

How I use it

I use all of this as an all over lid color. The blue and black I also use as an eyeliner and they perform very well as an eyeliner. I use an eyeshadow brush to apply, which work just as well as using fingers. There is little time to blend these; they dry down in about a minute.

How long I used it

I purchased these a day or two after they were released and have been dabbling in them since.

What I like about it

I bought four shades: M-10 (matte black), L-22 (lustrous dark blue), I-50 (iridescent warm beige) , L-54 (lustrous taupe). I love the color payoff; these are among the most pigmented shadows I have ever tried. A plus that they are cream shadows. Almost every cream shadow I own lasts longer than any powder shadow I have ever owned. These are removed fairly easy with cleansing oil.

What could be better

Not a huge fan of the packaging. It doesn’t bother me per say, it’s just that squeeze tubes always leave me feeling like I will eventually waste product. I wish these came in a little jar instead. MUFE claims these last 24 hours; they don’t. Well, let me put it this way: if you go to sleep within those 24 hours, they will rub off and be smeary in the morning. I know because I slept in my makeup, yes deliberately, to test this claim. I suppose if you don’t plan on sleeping, these may very well just last 24 hours. The two lighter shades crease from my oily lids around the eight hour mark. The blue and black last well beyond that; I don’t have any issues with them before it’s time for me to remove my makeup at night.

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, these eyeshadows are a 9!
