New! Nars Bronzing Powder Punta Cana – Yes, It Works on Dark Skin! | A Review

Not gonna lie, the new Nars Matte Bronzer in Punta Cana was a definite impulse purchase for me. I bought it feeling fairly confident that the shade would not show up on my skin as a bronzer. But hey, pandemics call for impulse purchases, it turns out! More on that later… but let’s talk about this bronzer! Once I received it, opened, and swatched it, it was definitely not love at first swipe. I put it back in the box and tossed it on my nightstand so I would not forget to send it back with haste and contempt. However, I decided to just try it after watching an instagram story and I am so glad I did!

My skin type

Oily and imperfect. I have been picking at my face lately and the scarring is real. I’ve only been able to test this indoors as we are still on lock down, and it holds up. Looking forward to seeing how the shade fares on my skin in the summer months, especially when I get darker.

What it’s supposed to do

From the brand: Glow all the way with award-winning Bronzing Powder in four shimmering shades for a longwearing, sunkissed glow. Blendable. Indispensable.

How I use it

I take a liberal amount of this powder and swipe it square on my cheeks and across my hairline. Sometimes, I use it as a subtle contour, taking it along my jawline, which obviously requires more powder. The powder definitely warms up my skin. The brand’s description indicates shimmer, but I don’t detect any shimmer at all. The bronzer has a matte look to me.

What I like about it

It is so hard for me to find a true bronzer for my skin tone, but brands are getting better. The only other one I am currently using is Benefit’s Hoola Toasted Bronzer and that one is soooo good, although slightly darker and redder than this one. This bronzer pulls more neutral (read, brown) on me, and I really like that about it.

What could be better

This bronzer is almost perfect! That packaging is great; it’s about the size of my palm and has a mirror in it; I can see myself using this during my “sit-down makeup sessions.” I do think Nars should go one step/shade further. I am dark-skinned but not the darkest person, and I don’t think anyone more than a shade darker than me will be able to get Punta Cana to work for them. That concerns me in the months to come when I hope I will be spending more time outdoors.
