People were going nuts over the Joseon Dynasty Cream a year or two ago and I found out about it quite late. I finally had a chance to buy it on Memebox after much outcry when they discontinued the cream and subsequently brought it back to the masses.

What it’s supposed to do
Provide moisture. I love how simple that is. Amazon is the only retailer that makes outrageous claims about clearing up wrinkles or shrinking pores, or other things brands claim I know just isn’t true. I watched the video on Memebox and the woman does not make any claims about fighting wrinkles. The cream itself has an interesting texture; it’s kind of gooey but not at all sticky. While it leaves my face feeling really soft, I would use this as a first moisturizer.

How I use it
According to Memebox, it can be used as a regular moisturizer (massage cream), sleeping mask, or makeup base.
As a moisturizer: I use this cream as an am (and sometimes pm) moisturizer. In the mornings, I would use this right after my Hada Labo Alpha Milk and found that the Hada Labo, while thinner in texture, is a lot more moisturizing than this cream, so I started using it as a first moisturizer. It’s also great as a massage cream. I recently purchased a facial steamer so I can give myself luxurious, hour-long facials and I found that this worked great as a massage cream.
As a makeup base: I find that as a makeup base, depending on the tools you’re using, it pills. I’ve tried it with a blending sponge and a dense brush. I suppose using a foundation brush would not disturb the cream, but I only use those for concealer these days.
As a sleeping mask: As a sleeping pack, this will be a no-go, even for those with oily skin. While the cream appears rich in texture, it absorbs quickly. I don’t think this provides enough moisture to be used as a sleeping mask.
How long I used it
I’ve been using this since the beginning of December.
Results
I don’t usually use this on its own unless I’m really, really sleepy, and I can’t even think of doing it then. This is a decent moisturizer, and very different from anything in my collection. Lately, I am thinking about simplifying my skincare routine. This would become a part of that routine, when I decide to do that. Would I repurchase? Likely not. For a Korean skincare cream that doesn’t provide superb moisture, it’s pricey.
