In the midst of Instagram hype, I bit the bullet and ordered two of the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks ($20.00); one in Flirt and the other in Trophy Wife. Those were the only two left on the Sephora website and I was quite surprised I was even able to order those. Trophy Wife is marketed as “rose wood” and shows up on me a bit brighter than I would have imagined. It’s my favorite of the two. Flirt is supposed to be a “cheeky brown” but has a greyish undertone on me that makes me second guess whether or not I should leave the house in it. I have worn it multiple times and when it settles, it looks fine. I think someone half a shade lighter than me would consider this the most perfect nude lip.

The formula is interesting to me because it doesn’t mimic any one particular liquid lipstick formula, but a few of them. It smells like a very concentrated Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (think vanilla extract instead of vanilla cake) and is a mousse-like texture, but it is thinner than say Ciate London’s Liquid Velvets or even Stila’s.
These are not drying at all, but not particularly moisturizing either, although these are some of the most comfortable. They feel good on the lips, there’s no tackiness, and sometimes, I even forget I have it on. In that, it reminds me of Guerlain’s Maxi Velvet Liquid Lipstick, as well as the fact that it needs to be reapplied after food.
I didn’t find these to be the longest lasting liquid lipsticks; I think Kat Von D has the game on locked with that one, although I have heard good things about Anastasia’s line. If I leave the lipstick undisturbed and not eat anything, then it’s fine, but if I eat something it definitely transfers off. For the most part, it’s kiss-proof unless you are tonguing someone down. I like these enough, but I’m good with the two I currently have.
