Same song. Same song. Every time I bleach my hair, I go through the same process of how to get those awful brassy-orange tones out of my hair. I have been experimenting with this for some time and I wanted to share a method that worked!
Before
After
Here’s what I did
The orange tones seen in the before photo is after two bleach jobs with 20 developer and powder bleach and an ash blonde toner. The toner obviously did not take for some reason (I’m guessing I didn’t leave it in long enough?) and I wanted my hair more blonde so I decided to bleach it again.
To get my hair the color in the after photos, I applied another bleach job to the hair, waited ~35 minutes and washed it out, then applied (actually, I heavily saturated it) the Dessange California Blonde Color Correcting Creme. I left this on for over an hour, washed it out, and followed up with L’oreal Ever Pure Sulfate-Free Blonde Shampoo. Both are purple in color; the Dessange is more blue-purple while the shampoo is a lighter purple, similar to the shade of the bottle. The Dessange smells a little bit chemically to me, but the L’oreal shampoo is much more pleasant. In this particular case, I blow dried my hair after conditioning because I wanted to see instant results; normally I’d just let it air dry to decrease the damage done to the hair.
Lastly, I just want to mention that I’m not a professional. I don’t like going to the salon for various reasons so I have been doing my own hair for years. I’m obviously wearing a wig and with wigs, once the damage is done, it’s done. You can treat it with a thick protein deep conditioner, but its temporary. After three bleach jobs, the texture of this wig changed and started to shed badly about two weeks after I got it this blonde. A plus is that after I replaced it, I started experimenting with Olaplex and I think it makes a difference! To close, I was really surprised this toner lifted the color so much! The process is quite time-consuming, especially if you are going to be using it on your natural hair. It’s definitely worth it, though, and I would buy the Dessange Color Correcting Creme again! I used it three or four times and still have a bit left in the tube.
