So the Julep Complexion Cushion 5-in-1 Skin Perfector ($30.00) was a surprise. I didn’t even know Julep made complexion products until I came across this one. As someone that usually wears high coverage foundation – be that medium- or full-coverage – I had pretty low expectations and was pleasantly surprised that it performed as nicely as it did. I went with the shade Mocha (420).
So at this point in the year, my face is in peak winter state: I am as light as I’m going to get and a little bit dry in the morning, which is something that’s new for me. I was surprised to see the impressive shade range Julep offers on this product as well. No, they don’t have 30 or 40 shades, but there are more shades for WOC than there are for some of the other complexion products recently released.
I was mostly surprised at how well the Complexion Cushion covers up my scars! This product is almost full-coverage, but it doesn’t seem like it from the way it sits on the skin.

My skin type
Oily in general. Lately I have been waking up to drier skin I have acne scars on my cheeks and chin and some damaged pores on my cheeks that foundation doesn’t fully cover.
What it’s supposed to do
From the brand: This multitasking skin perfector has a natural, demi-matte finish with buildable medium-to-full coverage that conceals, corrects, illuminates, blurs & brightens.
The product also has a skin care kick to it; the brand highlights the fact that it contains turmeric and other natural ingredients. Turmeric is supposed to have long-term skin brightening benefits, although I have not been using it long enough to detect something like that.
Ingredients
Water/Eau, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Butylene Glycol, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Dipentaerythrityl Hexa C5-9 Acid Esters, Glycerin, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Diisostearyl Malate, Silica, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate/Hexastearate/Hexarosinate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium Edta, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Tocopherol. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491/774922/77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163).
How I use it
The product is dispensed my twisting the bottom of the applicator a dozen times or so on first use. After that, it’s easier to come out. I apply the cream straight onto my cheeks and chin where I need coverage and lightly blend out with a brush. After the edges where I applied the product are smooth, I’ll go back over my scars if needed.
I have used the Complexion Cushion with and without setting powder and I prefer to use it without setting powder mainly because the setting powder does not increase longevity and it makes the makeup appear matte. The product on its own gives my face such a great finish that I don’t want to ruin it with setting powder.
What I like about it
I love the coverage and I love the finish; it covers everything and still looks like skin! As I mentioned before, I was taken aback at how well the Complexion Cushion covered up my scars. The shade Mocha (420) is a pretty darn good shade match for me.
What could be better
It doesn’t last as long as other complexion products I have. When I wear this, I come home surprised to find that the coverage has faded. I’d say this probably lasts 6 hours on my skin before it starts noticeably disappearing. Since it’s winter, I haven’t been getting super oily during the day, so it’s not that. When I wear this, I make sure to carry it with me in my purse for touch-ups.
