Tightlining has been around for centuries. If you’re not familiar with the process, it’s basically using eyeliner to line the inner portion of your eyelid, where your eyelashes grow. In the photo above, I used Charlotte Tilbury Rock N’ Kohl in Bedroom Black. Here’s why I love tightlining:
1. It draws attention to your eyes
My almond-shaped eyes POP when I tightline. The whites of my eyes appear more vivid and the black outline gives them definition, especially after mascara.
2. It makes your lashes look thicker and more defined
My lashes are nothing to write home about but when I tightline, they look more voluminous and relevant! I’m using Lancôme Monsieur Big in the photos. You can read why I love this mascara here. I have repurchased it several times.
3. It makes your eyes look bigger
This may not be for everybody, but for me, there are times I could use help from tightlining for bigger looking eyes. Late nights, long work days, never-ending side eyes… it’s especially helpful as I get older and everything just starts drooping anyway.
4. It creates an entirely different look compared to lining the top lash line
I must admit, my go-to eye look is one or two eyeshadow shades and a dark line across the top of my lash line. Because my lashes are so small and my brows are so sparse, if I’m not wearing eyeliner it’s really noticeable because I look like I have no hairs! Even with just mascara. Tightlining, however provides versatility. You can get away with not doing the traditional line across the lash line, but still be able to define and beautify your eyes.
5. It’s classy
I love the elegant look tightlining achieves. It allows more eyelid space for makeup while providing a beautiful black anchor for definition. It’s perfect for any professional setting and after hours activities, or can be subtle enough for when you want that no makeup makeup look.
