On my quest to keep my skin from looking like a bucket of grease, I wandered into Sephora to find primer. I have tried many and they mostly just clog my pores and cause me pimples. So annoying. So 97% of the time I go into Sephora, I know exactly what I want. This time however, I required assistance. As I was already testing out Hourglass’s Mineral Veil Primer (review to come), I felt I still needed to test the waters a bit. After getting the BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector ($36) as a sample, I was convinced to purchase the full size.
SIDE NOTE:
I randomly started to use the primer under my eyes, and it seemed to significantly diminish the appearance of my eye bags. I used this primer underneath my eyes for about two weeks everyday before I decided it was probably a bad idea. Why? Well although it decreased the appearance of my bags, it only worked when I wore makeup. And the BECCA primer is very very drying. The most drying primer I have ever tried. So I discontinued use when I realized this may actually do more harm than good, although technically it hadn’t. If I really want to glam myself up, I will still use this technique, but not an everyday thing for sure. I was so excited when I saw the results too. Ah well, the quest for no eye bags continues. On to the actual review of it as a primer!
So first of all, a little bit goes a long way. I only need a 1/2 pea sized amount. Before I use this primer, I use the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer all over my face (yes I use both). Because this primer is really drying, I usually only put it in my very oily zones which are pretty much my cheeks, the area surrounding my nostrils, and around my mouth and chin. My forehead doesn’t get as oily as the rest of my face so I just stick with the Hourglass primer there and nothing else.
The texture and consistency of this primer was a surprise. I like the fact it comes in a squeeze tube, because getting it out of the tiny sample jar Sephora gives you was annoying. It would get under my nails and was hard to get out. Because of the thickness in texture, when I apply it to my face, I use quick swipes. It isn’t like a cream or a lotion where you can just rub it on. I want to say it has the consistency of paste. I also love that it smells like nothing.
Recall that I said earlier a little bit goes a long way. I was unaware of this fact before I started using it, and this was the result:

As you can clearly see, BECCA leaves a white, very noticeable film on your face. When I did this and covered it with my Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+ Foundation, this was the result:
Inside, with flash |
Inside, natural light |
Now I don’t know if you noticed, but I have little to no freaking eye bags in these pictures. And this was what made me fall in love with BECCA. You can also see in the picture, with flash, my face look paler than normal and in natural light, it looks normal. But the amount of foundation I had to use to cover up the white film was more than I have ever used in one application. This did not sit well with me. Neither of these items are cheap, so I decided using a small amount in my very oily areas was a more practical way of using this primer. I also tested this primer to see if it would clog my pores and give me acne. Thankfully, I haven’t had any breakouts.
In a nutshell, this primer is now a huge staple in my makeup regimen. I use NO BLOTTING PAPERS when I use this on top of the Hourglass Mineral Veil. I actually use no blotting papers when I use only BECCA and no Hourglass Mineral Veil. With no primer and only foundation, I go through about four blotting papers per day. I usually apply my makeup around 7:30 am. The oily feeling normally starts around noon, where I use two blotting papers to relieve myself. I use them again around every two hours until I get home and wash my face.
If you have very oily skin, BECCA is the primer for you!

In my experience, the more oily the skin the more prone to acne… hands down best primer I have tried.

I REALLY love this. I'm just worried that the drying factor of the matte will make my face more acne prone. Worth a shot with all the scarring I have.
Nice pictures!!
