As promised, I am back to talk a little bit about a couple of the Makeup by Mario items I hauled, now that I have had a chance to use and “perfect” them.
The Glam Eyeshadow Quad in Bronzy Glam actually exceeded my expectations. I noticed when I purchased it, it had iffy reviews. I had already had trouble with the blush stick moving my makeup around. I decided I was going to keep an open mind and applied both with my fingers and this technique made my makeup come out superior.
I must admit, applying makeup with my fingers isn’t ideal for me. I hate getting makeup all over everything and there’s a larger possibility that I will get it all over my clothes. But the look came out so nice and I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the blush performed once I used my fingers. I swipe my fingers across the Soft Pop Blush Stick and tap it on to my cheeks, blending out the color to my satisfaction. Hint: a little bit goes a long way! When I used a brush with it, I had to go back over with my foundation brush to tone the blush down a little. Using my fingers definitely helped me layer it better and use a lighter hand.
I also applied the eyeshadow look using my fingers and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of color and how easily I was able to blend everything together.
From a value perspective, the eyeshadow quad was a steal; I did pick it up on sale for $15 and I am happy with the colors, longevity and performance. Although I got the blush stick to perform well on me without disturbing my base makeup, the $28 I spent on it seems pretty steep since I am not getting full use out of it with the brush. The blush stick and sculpting stick reminds me of the KKW Beauty contour sticks when the brand was first launched. I did have better luck with those sticks than these, FYI. I was surprised to see that KKW Beauty is currently offline working on its image. Kylie’s brand seems to be thriving and I can’t help but wonder if the two are related.
Anyway, I see Makeup by Mario has just launched some lipsticks in the line. Interestingly enough, the Soft Pop Blush Stick looked gorgeous on my lips as a lipstick. I applied it with my fingers over lip balm and it held up most of the day. That’s all I have to report for now.
