I am guilty of turning my nose up at non-Asian-branded sheet masks but listen, I have come around! The Sephora Watermelon After-Sun Mask is actually one of my favorite masks and I have repurchased it many times. It’s a mask that I wish was sold by the box! It’s a bio-cellulose mask that comes in two pieces: a mask for your entire face and another piece for the décolleté. I have also used that piece on my neck, but more on that in a minute. Also, it was made in Korea!
My skin type
Oily and imperfect. I have fading dark acne scars and tiny icepick scars on my cheeks.
What it’s supposed to do
From the brand: A cooling bio-cellulose mask for the face and décolleté that takes care of sun-exposed skin and prolongs a sun-kissed glow.
Ingredients
Water, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Glycereth-26, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Saccharide Isomerate, Hydroxyethyl Urea, PEG-32, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Arginine, Carbomer, Inositol, Panthenol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Coceth-7, PPG-1-PEG-9 Lauryl Glycol Ether, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Ethylhexylglycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Isostearate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate,Tocopherol
How I use it
I am able to keep this mask on for 30 minutes before it starts to dry out. I use the bottom portion for my chest, because I get more sun exposure there than I do on my neck. I have used this on my neck before but I prefer to use it on the top of my chest. I feel like my neck needs to be more moisturized than any other part of my body (and it’s sensitive af) so I felt this was better used as directed.
What I like about it
My skin is hydrated, plump, and glowy after use. Sephora claims a prolonging of tan with this one; I didn’t see any of that. In fact, I typically use sheet masks in the summer to keep my skin tone in check, specifically when I have spent too much time in the sun. For example, I went to a tennis match this summer and stayed out in the sun too long. The result was a taste of sun poisoning and a super dark forehead! I used this mask and doses of lactic acid to return to an even skin tone.
What could be better
As I mentioned this mask has become an absolute favorite of mine. It’s $5.00, about a dollar more than I think the average price of a biocellulose mask should be, but the joy is very high on this one so it justifies the price for me. Also, I didn’t see any indication of weight on the mask anywhere, which is usually indicative of how much essence the mask has, but I can say it’ a juicy mask that definitely hydrates. I would like to see a weight on the packaging though because for me, I wouldn’t generally buy a mask that weighed less than 25 grams.
