Rimmel Provocalips Make Your Move Review (PHOTO HEAVY)

Happy snow day!

Today I wanted to give you all my take on Rimmel’s line of liquid lipsticks, Provocalips. I purchased two of these, Make Your Move and Heart Breaker (which I haven’t tried yet).

Rimmel Provocalips: Make Your Move

I thought this would be as easy as swiping the color across my lips and letting it dry, just like other liquid lipsticks I have tried. This one proved to be a bit more difficult. The lipstick has two steps: the first is the color and the second is a balmy like substance. I thought it was gloss, but it really isn’t. It’s pretty thick in texture and I actually prefer it over gloss because I really don’t prefer to use lip gloss on my voluptuous lips.

I chose Make Your Move because it’s a light pinkish shade, exactly what I was looking for, and seemed like it would be good for my skin tone. It ticks all my boxes in that category. The trouble came with the application. At first, I only did one coat, which did not go on evenly. I realized the best way to use the product was to flatten your lips (smile really big) and apply with light pressure. It went on very streaky and it was just a really bad idea to mash my lips together. It made the streaky unevenness worse. So I let it dry down a bit before I mashed them together again. The first few photos of me below (and the very first picture) are without balm, and only one coat. I usually do not use the glossy part of these liquid lipsticks because I prefer the matte look, but I am going to tell you why you need to use the gloss/balm hybrid.

I was ok with just one coat and without the balm, but I really wanted more pigmentation, so I decided to apply another coat. BIG MISTAKE.

Once this lipstick dries down, you can’t really apply another coat because the product falls apart on your lips. It photographs well, but in reality, it looks terrible. Absolutely terrible. I decided to see what would happen if I used the glossy part over the two coats, and to my surprise, it smoothed out the lipstick. I immediately realized that I could only achieve one coat and must use the balm. So I wiped everything off and did just that.

I will use this periodically, but the application is pretty hard. It took me a good 15 minutes to figure out how to get the best use out of this product, and I really don’t have that kind of time to be wasting in the morning.

As far as wearability, yes, it stays on all day through eating. The claim about no transfer isn’t exactly true. It doesn’t have as much transfer on cups and glasses as a regular lipstick, but it does transfer. You also want to stay away from oily foods. When I got home, it was still on, but it certainly could have used a reapplication, which I was terrified to do after my fiasco with it that morning.

I recently read a blog post comparing this product to Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Rouge, and I will say I definitely prefer the Aqua Rouge. It’s more than twice as much in price but it is much better in quality. If you are looking for a dupe however, this will suffice.

Provocalips goes for $6.99 at Walgreens (I paid more at CVS :/)
